How We Rate Our Preloved Cameras
Curious about our cosmetic ratings? Here’s a simple guide to how we assess the condition of every preloved camera at GibbySnaps.
If you’ve browsed our cameras at GibbySnaps, you’ve probably seen ratings like 10/10, 9/10, or 8/10 cosmetics in our listings.
So, what do those numbers actually mean?
Most of the digicams we carry are preloved, and many are already more than a decade old, so some signs of previous use are completely normal.
At GibbySnaps, we do our best to hunt for and carefully curate cameras that are still in good cosmetic condition. We also come across beautifully preserved and even mint-condition units.
Here’s a simple guide to how we rate them.
Our Cosmetic Grading Scale
We rate cosmetic condition on a scale of 10.
| Rating | Condition | What You Can Expect |
|---|---|---|
| 9–10 | Excellent to Mint | Very well-kept to exceptionally clean, with minimal to little or no noticeable signs of use. |
| 8–8.9 | Good Preloved | May have noticeable scratches, scuffs, paint wear, or other normal signs of use. |
| 7–7.9 | Fair Preloved | Shows more visible signs of age and previous use, such as scratches, scuffs, discoloration, or wear. |
| 6 & below | Well-Loved | May show heavier signs of use, including more noticeable scratches, paint wear, discoloration, dents, or other cosmetic wear. |
A quick note about our ratings
Our grading scale is specific to GibbySnaps and is based on our own judgment and inspection of each camera.
There isn’t one universal grading system for preloved digital cameras, so other shops and sellers may assess cosmetic condition differently. Our scale is simply here to help you understand what our ratings mean when shopping at GibbySnaps.
Since cosmetic condition can also be subjective, we always recommend checking the actual photos of the camera you’re interested in.
Cosmetic condition vs. functionality
Our cosmetic rating only describes how the camera looks, not how well it works or the quality of the photos it takes.
A camera can have scratches or visible signs of use and still work properly. Likewise, a camera that looks almost new still needs to be tested.
That’s why we assess functionality separately. Before listing a camera, we test its functions and disclose any notable issues we find.
Always check the actual photos
Our rating gives you a quick idea of the camera’s condition, but the actual photos are just as important.
We provide photos of the individual unit so you can see its condition for yourself. If there are any notable marks or imperfections, we also do our best to make them clear in the listing.
After all, every preloved camera is different, even two cameras of the exact same model.
Before ordering, simply check the cosmetic rating, actual unit photos, and condition notes so you know what to expect.
At GibbySnaps, we put a lot of care into finding and curating cameras that have been well taken care of, while being transparent about the condition of every unit we list.
A preloved camera may already have a little history behind it. We hope its next chapter is filled with your own memories.
